On July 31 news broke that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Democratic Party’s campaign arm in the House, will financially support candidates who oppose abortion rights. Their justification– the personal beliefs of a candidate take precedence over women’s access to quality reproductive healthcare services. Women’s March Connecticut, NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, democratic leaders in the state, and other progressive groups think this is unacceptable and not in line with democratic values.
On August 4, Women’s March CT joined with our allies to denounce the DCCC and call on the Connecticut Democratic Party to do the same. Since taking a stand, the Connecticut Democratic Party voted unanimously on a Resolution to reaffirm the party’s commitment to uphold equal rights for women and a woman’s right to access safe & legal abortion. The Resolution recognizes that the largest increase in activism and political awareness since the 2016 elections belongs to women.
Let’s build on this momentum! The DCCC continues to market off of us. If you visit their website, their entire landing page is an image from the Women’s March. We must use our power to demand that the DCCC respect women, not just use us. Women’s reproductive health is not a fringe issue. Women’s autonomy over her own body is a human right and a necessity in order to attain and preserve economic security in her life.
Sign this petition calling on the DCCC to reverse their position and refuse funding to candidates who oppose abortion.
We hope that as a signatory of this petition you will also refrain from donating to the DCCC. Only donate directly to candidate campaigns (supporting candidates who value full access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion) until the DCCC stands firm on pro-choice values.
