In Connecticut, the legislative session will close this Wednesday, June 7th. We need your help in our call to action every day this week to ensure important bills get the votes they deserve in the Connecticut General Assembly.
Whether you can call, send an email, or show up in person at the Capitol, we hope you’ll join us in supporting the incredible advocacy of progressive organizations and grassroots groups. Time is running out.
There are only 3 DAYS LEFT for our legislators to act! These students have come so close but the legislature has failed our students and they have not called SB 17 or HB 7000 up for a vote. On Friday night, the Senate took up and debated SB 17. Students, C4D members, and allies from all over state gathered at the State Capitol to watch the debate and talk to legislators. Unfortunately, in a disappointing moment, the Senate did NOT VOTE on SB 17, and they tabled the bill after 2 hours of discussion. Sign the petition. Call your legislators. Show up in Hartford.
H.B. 6663, a commonsense bill that would increase justice and equality by improving police accountability in our state. The lobbyists who oppose this bill are fighting hard against it — despite the fact that this proposal would make communities safer, more equal, and more fair for everyone. Connecticut can create a fair, just, and wise police force, one that serves and protects everyone equally and Constitutionally. One bill will not solve these difficult problems overnight, but H.B. 6663 is a good start. Sign the petition to pass the strongest version of HB 6663. Call your legislators. Demand that key legislators advocate for this bill.
H.B. 6663: AN ACT CONCERNING POLICE MISCONDUCT.
Support the Campaign for Paid Family & Medical Leave.
A new poll confirmed that small business owners in Connecticut want legislators to pass paid family and medical leave. So, why are politicians stalling? 83% of people in CT want it. And 77% of small business owners do too. Legislators need to hear from you. Call your representatives before 5pm on Tuesday. Urge them to call SB 1 and HB 6212 up for a vote. Read the latest. Call your legislators.
Demand that Connecticut join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact to make every vote count.
There are a handful of Democratic holdouts that need to be brought on board to pass the bill. By preventing Connecticut from joining the Compact, they are getting in the way of solving real problems of disenfranchised voters, thwarting the will of the majority, and widespread voter suppression. Sign the petition.
H.B. 5434: AN ACT ADOPTING THE INTERSTATE COMPACT TO ELECT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BY NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE.
Time is running out for the legislature to enact critical oversight and transparency of economic development spending. Our state spends over $500 million/yr on economic development. The legislature needs a targeted, independent review on the impact, efficiency, and performance of these business assistance programs. This bill unanimously passed the House and legislators are now trying to roll the bill into a more controversial bill that the Governor has threatened to veto. Please call your state senator ASAP and urge them to support HB 7316.
Watch the video from Comptroller Kevin Lembo to see why this bill matters in our state. Make calls to Senate leadership to make sure they know that Connecticut voters demand transparency when it comes to economic development in our state.
